This program is divided into two sections;
Section one is based on teaming up with Chicago organizations and businesses like food pantries, restaurants, and grocery stores to have staff and volunteer members collect food items and distribute them to the homeless on a mobile basis. We carry out mobile distributions almost every weekend!
Homeless individuals are not vetted by our staff BUT we do not ever directly hand out money to the homeless or any of our clients. With every meal we provide, we encourage homeless individuals to contact us via phone from a church or shelter so we can assist them with resettlement, or get them in touch with someone who can. However, homeless individuals many times face unique challenges, such as mental illness and drug addiction, so it is much more difficult for us to work with them on a permanent basis as compared to our other clients. We appreciate your understanding of this, as homeless people get hungry, too, regardless of their circumstances.
Section two is about the refugees, single parents and abuse victims we assist by providing grocery gift cards.
Clients receiving grocery gift cards MUST be going through a mentorship program or taking ESL and Basic Computer Programming classes with us or another charity.
These clients are vetted by our staff or referred to us by fellow tax exempt charities before they receive any kind of temporary food assistance.
